Our Delicious Pork

Good pork is full of flavor, fat and color, with marbling like beef, not bland and mushy “the other white meat”. Dragonfly Farms has delicious, nutritious pork available by the piece or in larger bundles. See our Buying page to order from us.

We raise our hogs from birth to butcher on our farm, outdoors, humanely, rotating them through pastures and woodland. They have a diverse diet from grazing and rooting the fields and forest, and are supplemented with a non-gmo local grain and brewers mash from a couple local breweries. We are raising cross bred hogs, using large heritage breed pigs, including Red Waddle, Berkshire, Gloucestershire Old Spot, Duroc and Tamworth.

Our pigs are checked daily and given food and clean water. They are moved to a new paddock about every week. Pigs have a different impact on the ground than cattle or sheep. They do graze, eat the grasses, clovers and forbs, but also root, digging in the ground to eat roots, grubs and other insects. They also dig to create wallows or mud holes. They cover themselves in mud to help regulate their body temperatures. All this rooting tills the ground, aerating and activating new levels in the latent seed bank existing in our soils. Part of our new property has been overgrazed by cattle for many years and the disturbance by the pigs is a great tool to help increase biodiversity on the farm and stimulate all kinds of growth.
