This fall we had twelve cows calve successfully giving us thirteen calves! Our black Angus cow named Raisin had twins. She only took to one of them, so we have been bottle feeding and raising Double Stuff at our farm. We used a Belted Galloway bull with our herd, which consists of Belted Galloway and Angus cows. We have found that in this part of the country with the summer heat and the primarily fescue forage base that our cows do well on a fall calving schedule. We have turned the same bull out with the herd on December 21st to re-breed the cows for next years calves. This season Ajax is breeding 20 cows. This will be the last time we can use this bull because his daughters will join the herd next winter and we will purchase another bull. We will get an Angus bull. We have great success with the the crosses for beef.
